Hassett Air Express

In June of 1996, RMS responded to a Request for Proposal (RFP) on behalf of Hewlett-Packard (Don Custardo, Sales Rep) for Hassett Air Express. Hassett, an international airfreight forwarding company, had been using three AT&T 3B2 systems to run their business. They were considering a new computer system because of the following primary reasons:

  • The 3B2 systems were performing at unacceptable response times and the user community was beginning to get frustrated with the overall system performance.
  • The ability to upgrade the 3B2 systems was seriously limited and did not present Hassett with a variety of solutions for their future computing requirements.

The competition ended up being between HP / RMS and IBM. HP was selected due to their commanding overall system performance and ability to scale as Hassett's business requirements expanded.

RMS installed a HP 9000 Model D310. The overall system performance is now approximately 500% faster than the time that it took to run their various reports prior to installation.

Additional value was provided by RMS in designing and installing a digital Wide Area Network (WAN) which saved Hassett over $18,000 (because their previous WAN consisted of analog lines) with a ROI of 6 months.

In addition to those solutions, RMS recently designed and installed a WEB server / firewall solution enabling Hassett's customers to receive immediate notification of shipment status, as well as to communicate with Hassett via e-mail.
